Visit of His Holiness Sakya Trizin 18 to 28 July 2014
We are immensely privileged to announce the visit of His Holiness Sakya Trizin. He will spend eleven days at Chanteloube, from 18 to 28 July, in the course of his European tour.
H. H. Sakya Trizin is the supreme head of the Sakya school. Though the Sakya school is one of the "new" schools of Tibetan Buddhism, it traces its origins to Tibet's earliest history. It takes its name sa kya ("pale earth") from the appearance of the place where it was established, in the Todhampa region of Western Tibet—a place blessed by Guru Rinpoche, who built four phurba-shaped stupas there in the four directions. The Khön family, from which the leaders of the Sakya school are descended, was established in Tibet before the arrival of the Buddhadharma. For many generations, it was an upholder of the teachings of Guru Rinpoche, particularly the practice of Vajrakilaya. In the New Translation period, great masters of Sakya, emanations of Manjushri, such as Sachen Kunga Nyingpo and Sakya Pandita, combined the tradition of the great monastic universities of India with the teachings of the Mahasiddhas, in particular the scholar-siddha Virupa.
The present Sakya Trizin completed his education while still in Tibet, at the feet of his root teacher Ngawang Shenphen Lodrö and many other lamas, including His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Jamyang Khyentse Chökyi Lodrö.
Exiled in India, he has surmounted every difficulty in preserving the Sakya lineage and establishing it on a firm basis: building monasteries, creating lay communities, and founding the Sakya monastic college, which is now producing a new generation of scholars. His Holiness had close links with Kyabje Dudjom Rinpoche and Kyabje Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche, and often asked their advice regarding his projects. In addition to his vast learning, he is a renowned vajrayana practitioner. He is also familiar with Western culture and speaks excellent English.
We have requested His Holiness to give an explanation of the Gift of Dharma, an instruction offered to the Emperor Kublai Khan by Chögyal Phakpa, the nephew of Sakya Pandita. We have also requested the transmission of Vajra Yogini according to the special lineage of the Sakya school, as well as teachings and transmissions from other traditions.
We strongly advise to take advantage of this rare opportunity to receive the blessing and teachings of His Holiness. For a meeting with such a great master is an extremely powerful force for the dissipation of obstacles of all kinds. The teachings will be given at :
La Péchardie, route de la Côte de Jord, 24290 Saint Léon sur Vézère
